Turning Lost Visitors Into Ca$h Customers

How many times have you visited a Website and received a message similar to this..
Error 404 - File Not Found
"The requested URL /jfdslds.html was not found on this server. Please Contact the System Administrator if this Problem Persists."
First let's examine why visitors get lost. They may get lost because they've uploaded a Website, modified it and deleted some of the old pages. However, these old pages are still indexed with the Search Engines, so visitors will still click on the links and attempt to enter your website via these broken links. Also, they might transpose two letters in the file name or directory, or just flat out misspell the file name. Not everyone's spelling is up to par. Some are even lethargically surfing and may go ahead and type in the wrong name without realizing it, maybe forgetting that filename for the filename of the last Website they Visited. Maybe they had one too many beers :-0
I visited eBay.com recently which gets 1.5 BILLION Page Views Per Month and tried typing in a bogus filename. And Guess What? They even have this ugly message. I couldn't believe it! If they just read this article, I wonder how many hundreds of thousands or millions of people they could have added to their Mailing List or Sold Something to. Not that they're a hurting enterprise, but the fact is, they could be doing a lot better with a few simple techniques. I Personally get over 1,200 Visitors Per Week that Don't find the Page they are looking for, since I've redesigned my site several times and still have old pages registered with the search engines. There's a simple solution to get all the benefits out of lost visitors that you would receive from Visitors that went right to your Home Page, and to ensure that they never receive this message again.
